Ground source air strike causes headaches for school district
In Pennsylvania, crews drilling bore holes for a geothermal field at Central Manor in the Penn Manor School District hit a “void” in the limestone about 20 feet to 50 feet down. Denny Coleman, director of buildings and grounds said the work caused four sinkholes. The smallest sinkhole is 3 feet wide, 2 feet long and 2 feet deep; the largest is 15 feet wide, 18 feet long and 15 feet deep. The sinkholes have force drillers to move to a parking lot, where new test drilling was successful. The associated building project, which will add a seven-classroom wing to the 29-classroom building, remains on schedule.
