DOE data project will compile a mind boggling amount of data
In Arizona, a press release from the state’s Geological survey was of interest because of the data points noted. The Digest has already reported on the $18 million cross country data project that will bring together data from 46 participating states which will be compiled, digitized, and documented for populating the National Geothermal Data System (NGDS). A number of the items to be compiled feature some truly staggering numbers – and this is data that exists. They are: Well data from 2 million water, oil and gas, and geothermal wells; Hot springs water chemistry for more than 6,600 sites; Bottomhole temperatures from more than 750,000 wells; Well core and cutting data on over 17 million ft from more than 540,000 wells; and Geo-pressured data from 44,000 well logs and experimental results from the Gulf Coast.
