Indonesia’s GT potential equivalent to 19 billion barrels of oil
In Indonesia, in a presentation on the Hulu Lais geothermal project development, Anna Rufaidat from the Geothermal & Ground Water Development Directorate at the Energy & Mineral Resources Ministry said that the potential of Indonesia’s geothermal energy is 27,710 MW or equivalent to 19 billion barrels of oil. The current installed capacity is 1,189 MW, 4.3% of the country’s 2025 geothermal development target of 9,500 MW. Hulu Lais itself has 300 MW of capacity and infrastructure construction is underway. Two wells, each with 55 MW of capacity are to be “dug” beginning in 2012.
