Faulkner 1 shutdown cause determined
In Canada, Nevada Geothermal Power Inc. and its Engineering Procurement and Construction contractor which supplied the plant and electrical systems, have found the cause of a January 17 Faulkner 1 plant outage. EPC determined that the plant automatically shut down due to a failure in the buried power cable system. Cables leading outward from the control building were improperly configured, causing excessive heat to build up. A replacement cable system will be installed, which will take several weeks to complete. All is covered under warranty with the EPC contract.
