China legislation boosts renewable energy sector

In China, the country’s highest ranking legislature has adopted an amendment to the renewable energy law that will now require electricity grid companies to buy all the power produced by renewable energy providers. While two-thirds of China’s energy supply is derived from coal, the National People’s Congress Standing Committee made the change to the 2006 law to support the country’s embryonic renewable energy sector.
