City changes tactics on GT resource access as it looks ahead
In Alaska, with attempts to negotiate access to a proven geothermal resource on private land stalled, Unalaska, AK is trying a different route. City Manager Chris Hladick is going to talk to land owner Jack Wood again, but this time discussions will center on buying the hot water outright and possibly the 7,000 acres of land. The city also remains in talks with Aleut Corporation for access to a GT field on Ounalashka Corporation lands. Unalaska is looking ahead to increases in shipping and tourism that could come about from the melting of Arctic sea ice.
